Shared family calendar: every household on the same agenda, Android and iOS
One calendar, every phone, in real time. Recurring events, reminders, multi-household for shared custody.
In every family, the same scene plays out: « you didn't tell me », « what time was the dentist again? », « we already had something Saturday ». A shared family calendar doesn't have to be a spreadsheet or a fridge magnet. With Zoku, every member of the tribe sees the same agenda in real time, on their own phone. No more double-booking, no more « I forgot to tell you ».
The shared-calendar pain, in five scenes
If you've ever lived with another adult, one of these will sound familiar:
The classic. The dentist appointment was on the fridge. The fridge isn't a sync engine. The other adult didn't see it. Now you're both annoyed.
You committed to dinner at your in-laws on Saturday. Your partner committed to a birthday party. Same Saturday. Nobody told the other.
The school meeting was confirmed by email three weeks ago. The email is buried. Now you're scrolling through your inbox, ten minutes before leaving.
One adult holds the entire family schedule in their head. They are the calendar. If they're sick, the household stops working.
What's actually in the Zoku calendar
Built for households, not for project managers. The features that matter day to day:
Add an event from your phone, your partner sees it on theirs in under a second. Same calendar, every device.
Set school terms, custody weeks, weekly practice or the monthly orthodontist once. They show up automatically. Reminders fire as phone notifications.
See the whole month at a glance. Identify which week is going to be a nightmare before you live it.
The detailed weekly view, plus the ability to attach a document (prescription, school PDF, birthday invitation) to an event. Included in Premium.
Already on Google, Apple or Outlook? Bring it along
No need to retype everything. Zoku picks up what you already have, and sends the tribe calendar back to where you use it:
- ICS import (free): export your Google, Apple or Outlook calendar and import the file (or several, like Google's .zip with one .ics per calendar). Before anything is saved, a full preview shows what will be added, updated, adapted or skipped; you tick what to keep. Duplicates are detected, and re-importing the same file updates events instead of duplicating them. Recurring, all-day and multi-day events and time zones are handled.
- Your subscription linkPremium: the tribe calendar shows up in Google, Apple or Outlook. Privacy carries over: everyone only sees what they can see in Zoku, private and admin-only events stay hidden. It's one-way, from Zoku to your other calendar, and that app decides when to refresh (Google: up to 24 h).
- Synced calendarsPremium: paste the iCal address of your personal calendar: its events appear in Zoku and refresh automatically every 3 hours. They're read-only in Zoku: you edit them in the original calendar. Up to 3 calendars per member.
Together, they keep Zoku and your other calendar aligned both ways: Zoku to Google, Apple or Outlook through the link, your personal calendar to Zoku through the sync.
A typical week with the Zoku calendar
Here's how the calendar fits into a real family week:
Sunday evening: scan the week ahead
Open the monthly view, glance at next week. Which days are packed? Who's where? You spot the conflict (two events Wednesday at 18:00) before it becomes a fight.
Wednesday: the pediatrician at 16:00
The reminder fires at 15:30 on your phone. You leave on time, with the prescription attached to the event (Premium). No scrolling through emails to find which one had the appointment confirmation.
Friday: your partner adds a dinner
Your partner schedules dinner with friends for next Saturday. You see it appear on your phone within seconds. No « did you tell me about this? » Yes, they did. The calendar did.
Saturday: your teen checks the calendar
Your 14-year-old wants to know if Sunday's free. They open Zoku on their own phone. They see the answer. They don't ask you. The calendar pays for itself.
Multi-household: one tap to switch
This is where Zoku diverges from a simple shared calendar. You can belong to several tribes, each with its own calendar, completely isolated:
- Shared custody:a « Dad's home » tribe and a « Mom's home » tribe, each with its own week, its own events.
- Blended families:main family + ex's family + grandparents who help out. Each context has the right people in it.
- Flatshares:separate roommate logistics from family events.
- Vacations:a temporary tribe for the trip with friends, deleted after.
You switch tribes with a single tap on the tribe name at the top of the screen. Data stays strictly partitioned: no leak between contexts.
Family holiday home: the shared booking calendar
Grandma's house, the chalet shared between cousins, the siblings' holiday flat: one place, several families, and always the same question, « who's going in August? ». A tribe dedicated to the house sorts it out:
- Everyone books their dates: a stay is an event over several days, visible to the whole tribe. Weeks already taken jump out in the monthly view.
- House info in one place: the house rules, the gate code or the boiler manual attached to a stay (Premium).
- Shared costs: everyone logs what they pay (electricity, cleaning, repairs) in the shared expenses, and the accounts stay clear.
- Your household stays separate: the house tribe sits next to your own household's tribe, calendars never mixed. One tap to switch.
FAQ - Family calendar with Zoku
How does the calendar stay in sync across the whole tribe?
Sync is real-time via the cloud. The moment someone creates, edits or deletes an event, every other phone in the tribe sees it within a second. No export, no manual sharing, no Google Calendar to reconfigure: it really is the same calendar, seen from each phone.
Can I import an existing Google, Apple or Outlook calendar?
Yes. For free, you import the .ics file exported from Google, Apple or Outlook: before anything is saved, a full preview shows what will be added, updated, adapted or skipped, and you tick what to keep. Duplicates are detected, and re-importing the same file updates events instead of duplicating them. With Premium, your subscription link shows the tribe calendar in Google, Apple or Outlook (everyone only sees what they can see in Zoku), and up to 3 synced calendars per member bring your personal calendars into Zoku, read-only and refreshed automatically every 3 hours.
Can I set recurring events (school, custody, sports)?
Yes. You can set a recurrence (daily, weekly, monthly, or custom) on any event, and attach a reminder. Perfect for school terms, custody weeks, weekly practice, or the monthly orthodontist visit.
How does it work for shared custody and blended families?
This is the typical use case for Multi-Tribes. You set up a « Dad's home » tribe and a « Mom's home » tribe, each with its own calendar. Data stays strictly partitioned. You switch between tribes with a tap on the name at the top of the screen, and each parent sees the calendar of the home the kids are in that week.
Do we get notifications before events?
Yes. You set the reminder per event (at the exact time, 15 minutes before, the day before, etc.). The reminder fires as a notification on your phone, great for medical appointments, parent-teacher conferences, or kids' birthday parties you can't forget.
Are monthly and weekly views available?
The monthly view is free and shows a whole month at a glance. The weekly view, with more detail, is included with Premium, useful for packed weeks where every slot matters.
Can I attach a document to an event?
Yes, that's a Premium feature. You can attach the prescription for a visit, the back-to-school PDF, or the invitation for a birthday party. Everything stays at hand when the event arrives, without digging through emails.
What if I want to keep some events private?
Every event you create is shared by default with the current tribe. For purely personal events, create a solo « Personal » tribe and add them there: you remain the only member, so the only one who sees them.
Does it work for flatshares and couples without kids?
Of course. Anything that needs to coordinate multiple adults benefits: cleaner visits, landlord appointments, shared vacations, dinners with in-laws, friends' birthdays. The tribe can be a family, a couple, a flatshare. The calendar mechanics stay the same.
Can we manage bookings for a shared family house?
Yes. Create a tribe for the house with the families who share it. Everyone adds their stays as multi-day events, and the monthly view shows at a glance which weeks are free and which are taken. Costs (electricity, cleaning, repairs) are tracked in the same tribe's shared expenses, without mixing anything with your own household's calendar.
