Group holidays: organise a house for ten without a 400-message group chat
The Android and iOS app for holidays with friends, family reunions, the family house and ski trips.
The « Holidays » group chat has 412 messages, three of them useful: Max's arrival time, the key-box code and « has anyone brought coffee? ». For the trip, Zoku creates a temporary tribe (shared shopping, a common kitty, a schedule of arrivals and outings, check-ins to find each other), which you delete on the last day.
The real friction of holidays with a group
Three cars, three supermarkets, four bags of crisps and no bread. Group shopping is a synchronisation problem.
The end arrives, nobody kept the receipts, someone fronted the rent, someone else the petrol. The spreadsheet sent in September ends up as a moral debt.
Seven arrivals spread over two days, three journeys to coordinate, and one person with the keys.
The group scatters across the market, the beach, the slopes. « Where are you? » gets repeated twelve times a day.
How Zoku is built for group holidays
You create it, you invite, you go. It never mixes with your family or your couple. You delete it when you get back (or keep it for next year).
One single list, ticked off live by whoever is in the supermarket. « Coffee » is on it once and bought once.
Rent, groceries, petrol, restaurants: everyone logs what they front, with a receipt photo ⭐. Total per payer with one filter, settled on the spot.
Who arrives when, Thursday's walk, Saturday's table. One source, not four message threads.
A check-in « at the beach », directions to whoever is already at the market ⭐. Without following anyone all week.
The trip's chat, with photos. The gang's usual group chat stays for the jokes.
→ La Caisse and shared expenses · → Outdoors, the check-in with no tracker
A setup that works
A week for eight in a house in the Cévennes:
- Tribe « Cévennes »: all eight. Shopping list, La Caisse for rent, groceries, petrol and outings, calendar of arrivals and activities, favourite places (house, market, river), chat.
- Tribe « Us » for each couple: invisible from the group.
- Tribe « Family » for each of them: likewise.
On Thursday Léa does the shopping: the group's list gets ticked off as she goes, and the expense lands in La Caisse with the receipt. On Saturday everyone scatters across the market: two check-ins and one set of directions are enough to regroup at the café. On Sunday evening, the cashbox filtered by member settles the accounts before the first car leaves.
→ Zoku for couples · → The same temporary tribe, for Christmas
What stays private
- The holiday tribe is kept apart: it sees nothing of your other tribes, and the other way round.
- Check-in is voluntary: nobody is located without deciding to be.
- An expense can be private or restricted to admins.
- Deleting the tribe removes its data for everyone. Or keep it as a memento and a starting point for next year.
- Data encrypted in transit (TLS), hosted in Europe, exportable and deletable (GDPR).
FAQ - Group holidays with Zoku
Does everyone have to install the app?
To use the shared list and the kitty, yes. It takes a minute, with an invitation code. Otherwise one person can keep the tribe and share the totals.
How many people can join?
Up to 8 per tribe. For a bigger group, create one tribe per house or per car.
Does La Caisse work out the repayments?
It gives the total per payer over the period. The final split (evenly, per night) is up to you, based on shared figures.
Can we set the tribe up before leaving?
Yes, and it is worth doing: a pre-filled shopping list, the arrivals calendar, favourite places saved. On the day, everything is ready.
What happens to the tribe afterwards?
You delete it, or you keep it. Plenty of people rename it for next year and start from the same list.
Is it free?
Yes. Multi-tribe, groceries, La Caisse, calendar, chat and check-in are free. Receipt photos and directions are Premium.
