Blended family: running a household where nobody shares the same calendar

The multi-tribe Android and iOS app for couples building a household with children from both sides.

His children every other week, yours on even weekends, the baby you had together all the time. A step-parent who handles school meals but is not allowed to talk to the school. An ex who texts the holiday dates to only one of you. The blended family is the hardest household to run, and family apps are built for the easiest. Zoku starts from reality: several rhythms, several ties, one household to keep running.

Free on Android and iOS, as many tribes as you have arrangements.

The real friction in a blended household

« Who have we got this weekend? »

Two custody calendars that never line up. Some weekends the house is empty, others you need seven chairs. Without one shared view you find out on Friday night.

« I'm not supposed to know that »

The step-parent does the shopping, the homework, the lifts, but the school's message goes to the other biological parent, who forgets to pass it on.

« Is that for your children or for ours? »

A blended household's budget has lines that do not split evenly: clothes for one, activities for another, groceries for everyone. A joint account is not enough.

« My mother wants to know when she can have the little ones »

Grandparents on both sides, ex-partners, a new family: too many people need a piece of the information, and none of them should see all of it.

How Zoku is built for the blended family

The blended household has its tribe

The two of you, every child who lives with you, step-parent included with the same rights. Calendar, groceries, meals, stock, household expenses.

One co-parenting tribe per tie

One with your ex for your children, one with his ex for his. Custody schedule, costs, school news. Each ex only sees the tribe that concerns them.

The step-parent sees what they run

In the household tribe they have everything. In the co-parenting tribes they are not there (unless both parents decide otherwise). Zoku does not rule on it, it makes it possible.

La Caisse separates the spending

Named payer, visibility per line, filters by member. What is for « his » children and what is for everyone is one filter apart.

→ Co-parenting across two households · → La Caisse and shared expenses

A setup that works

Julie (two children, Emma and Tom) and Karim (one son, Sami) live together and have a little girl, Lina.

  • Tribe « Julie & Karim's house »: Julie, Karim, Emma, Tom, Sami (once they have a phone). Household calendar with each child's weeks, groceries, meals, stock, the household cashbox, chat.
  • Tribe « Emma & Tom - co-parenting »: Julie and her ex-partner. Custody schedule, holidays, dentist, school meals. Karim is not in it.
  • Tribe « Sami - co-parenting »: Karim and his ex-partner. Same principle. Julie is not in it.
  • Tribe « Grandparents » (optional): for weekends at Nan's, without giving access to the whole household.

In the household calendar, a recurring « Emma & Tom with us » and a « Sami with us » are enough: at a glance the house knows which weekend needs seven chairs. A change of rhythm is updated in the co-parenting tribe, and the parent concerned carries it over into the household tribe. You choose what travels.

Privacy: each tie, its own space

A blended family is made of adults who did not choose one another. Keeping the spaces separate is not optional.

  • Tribes are strictly separated: Julie's ex never sees the household tribe, nor Karim's tribe with his ex.
  • You decide who joins what. Nobody can invite themselves.
  • Expense visibility per line: one child's costs can stay between their two parents.
  • Data encrypted in transit (TLS), hosted in Europe, exportable and deletable at any time (GDPR).

FAQ - Blended families with Zoku

How is this different from the shared custody page?

Shared custody is about the tie between two separated parents. The blended family is about the new household: the couple, the step-parent, each side's children and any children you have together. Zoku serves both, with different tribes.

Can my partner see my children's custody schedule?

Yes, if you carry the weeks over into the household calendar, which you need to do anyway to run the house. They do not see the co-parenting tribe with your ex, unless you both invite them in.

Can children be in several tribes?

Yes. A teenager can be a member of the blended household, of their other parent's house, and of a co-parenting tribe. They see one coherent schedule; their parents do not see each other.

How do we handle expenses that do not concern every child?

La Caisse lets you name the payer, describe the expense and filter by member. Costs specific to one child can also be logged in the matching co-parenting tribe, separately from the household budget.

How many tribes can we create?

As many as you need, free of charge. A Premium « all my tribes » subscription covers them all, including any created later.

Is it free?

Yes. Multi-tribe, calendar, groceries, La Caisse, chat and check-in are free. Premium is optional.
